French Baguettes

Makes 2 loaves.

  • 1 cup warm water (80 degrees F)
  • 1 tablespoon white sugar
  • 1 12 teaspoon salt
  • 2 12 cups bread flour
  • 1 12 teaspoons dry active yeast

Place water, sugar and salt in bread pan of the Kuissential 2-lb Programmable Bread Machine. On top add flour and make a small well and add yeast. Select dough cycle (9)2 lb. Loaf and press start. When cycle has finished remove all dough and place in a greased bowl, turning to coat all sides, cover. Allow to rise, approximately 30 minutes, or until doubled in size.

Punch dough down and turn out onto floured surface rolling out into a 16"x12" rectangle cut in half to make two 8"x12" rectangles. Begin to roll each rectangle up starting at the long end, removing any are bubbles. Roll gently back and forth to taper the end. Place a few inches apart on a greased cookie sheet. Make deep diagonal cuts every couple of inches across the loaves or one lengthwise slash. cover and allow to rise until doubled.

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Mix 1 egg yolk with 1 Tablespoon water and brush over loaves.

Baked for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.

 

Kuissential Tip: Spray the breadmaker paddle with cooking spray to prevent dough from sticking!
